The Biosphere Reserve of the Anaga Massif: A Unique Natural Treasure

The Biosphere Reserve of the Anaga Massif is one of the most important natural spaces in Europe. Located in Tenerife, this place stands out for its great biological diversity and high ecological value. It is known as the Zero Kilometer of Vascular Flora by the International Committee of the World Biological Corridor, due to its relevance for the conservation of plant species.

A large number of endemic species

In Anaga, you can find plants that only exist in this area. Some of them are: the Chinamada Amagante, the Taganana Thyme, the Chinamada Pelotilla, the Chinobre Lechuguilla, and the Anaga Violet. These species are exclusive to the Canary Islands and are part of the unique natural heritage of Tenerife.

International protection since 2024

Since February of this year, the Anaga Massif has been part of the World Biological Corridor , a global project focused on connecting and protecting natural areas. Its adhesion was announced during the I International Congress on Oceans in El Hierro, where the importance of restoring affected ecosystems was highlighted.

This recognition allows for the integration of paths, ravines, marine areas, and other spaces of Anaga within an international conservation network. This way, the protection of one of the most valuable places in the Canary Islands is strengthened.
