The official list of the dead from Mauthausen Gusen

27 Canary Islanders on the list of the dead in the concentration camps of Mauthausen and Gusen (Austria), as published last month in the Official State Bulletin to simplify the corresponding death records.

According to the list, 11 Canary Islanders came from the province of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and 16 from the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The document published last month includes the first and last names of each of them, along with their date and place of birth, as well as the date of their death and the concentration camp where they died.

Most of the registered Canary Islanders died between 1941 and 1942 in the Gusen concentration camp, subordinate to Mauthausen, a complex that eventually came to be known as Mauthausen-Gusen, and which also received the most Spaniards.

From the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife came four men who resided in the capital, two in La Laguna, one in San Juan de la Rambla, one in Los Silos, one in La Orotava, three in Santa Cruz de La Palma, two in Garafía, one in Tijarafe, and another in Hermigua (La Gomera).

From the province of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, there were eight men originally from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, one from Ingenio, and two from Lanzarote. After the publication of this list in the BOE, family members and interested parties will have the opportunity to make possible modifications within a month. This way, any missing data can be included in the death registry.
