On the northwest coast of Gran Canaria, at the foot of the Tamadaba cliffs, Puerto de Las Nieves is the fishing neighborhood of Agaete: a dock with fishing boats, a pebble beach, and a row of white houses facing the Atlantic, from which, on clear days, you can see Teide.

Our webcam at Puerto de Las Nieves focuses on the dock from the beach: you can see the ferry dock, the small port with its boats, the shore in the foreground, and in the background, the line of cliffs going south.

This way you can check before leaving if the sea is calm for a swim or to go to the natural pools, see if the Tenerife ferry is in port, or simply enjoy the afternoon light on the cliffs.

Every day, ferries from Fred. Olsen Express leave this dock towards Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The crossing takes about one hour and twenty minutes and is the fastest connection between the two capital islands: if you watch the camera throughout the day, you will see the boat dock and depart several times.

Next to the dock, fishing boats coexist with a small marina. The promenade along the beach is full of seafood restaurants, one of the reasons many Gran Canarians visit Agaete on weekends.

In front of the coast stood the Dedo de Dios, the rock shaped like a finger that was the symbol of the town until tropical storm Delta broke it in November 2005. Today only its base remains, and the profile of the cliffs is still the most photographed image of the port.

What to see in Puerto de Las Nieves and Agaete

Just a few minutes walk from the dock are Las Salinas de Agaete, former salt pans turned into three natural pools of volcanic rock that fill with seawater. They are the most sought-after bathing spot in the port when the ocean is calm.

In the same neighborhood is the Ermita de Las Nieves, which holds a Flemish triptych from the 16th century dedicated to the Virgin. Every August 4th, the Bajada de la Rama ends here, a National Tourist Interest Festival: thousands of people dance down from the town with pine branches until they reach the sea.

Just over a kilometer away is the town of Agaete, with its streets of white houses, and further up the Valle de Agaete, one of the few places in Europe where coffee is cultivated, among fruit trees and vineyards.

Tips for visiting Puerto de Las Nieves

The northwest sea can change quickly. At Las Nieves beach, which has pebbles and some sand, swimming is pleasant when the sea is calm; with a rough sea, it is safer to stay in the natural pools and pay attention to the flags. A glance at the webcam before leaving helps determine.

You can reach it by car from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in about 40 minutes via the northern highway (GC-2). On summer weekends, the parking lot at the port fills up quickly, so it's worth arriving early.

If you want to keep seeing the coastline of the island, check out the live cameras in Gran Canaria, compare it with the large port of the capital on the webcam of Puerto de La Luz or swing by another fishing village with the webcam of Puerto de Mogán.
