Famara, the beach of Lanzarote in the municipality of Teguise
Solutions in Famara

Famara beach, in the municipality of Teguise, is one of the most famous landscapes of Lanzarote: almost six kilometers of golden sand at the foot of the Riscos de Famara, within the Natural Park of the Chinijo Archipelago. It is a paradise for surfing, but its success has also brought problems.
The problems of Caleta de Famara
Caleta de Famara is a small village of just over a thousand inhabitants, with sandy streets and a very calm atmosphere. In recent years, its residents have complained about tourist saturation: rental cars parked everywhere, traffic in narrow streets, holiday homes that raise rental prices, and vehicles entering the jable, a protected habitat where birds like the Canary stone-curlew live.
The solutions that have been implemented
- In 2024, the Teguise City Council approved a mobility and signage plan, with one-way streets and new battery parking spaces at the entrance of the village.
- Signs have been installed on the beach prohibiting parking on the jable, camping, and leaving waste.
- The City Council is looking for land to create a parking lot outside the village center.
- During peak times, such as festivals, car access to the village is restricted.
Not all these measures have convinced the neighbors, who have protested against some changes and demand more safety for pedestrians and greater protection of the environment. The debate remains open.
How to visit Famara responsibly
- Park only in designated areas and never on the dunes.
- Respect the signage and do not camp on the beach.
- Be careful with swimming: in Famara, there are strong currents and waves, so swim only when the sea is calm and in monitored areas.
- Take your trash and respect the tranquility of the village.
