The Melenara beach (Telde, Gran Canaria) is a strip of volcanic black sand about 350 meters long, in the shape of a shell, with calm waters protected from the northern waves by a large rocky outcrop that acts as a natural barrier. It is the only beach in the municipality of Telde with a blue flag all year round, which speaks of the consistent quality of its services and facilities: showers, restrooms, free spa, sunbeds, umbrellas, playground, picnic area, supervision during the high season, and ample free parking in the surroundings. According to the Telde City Council, the name Melenara itself may have historical origins from the landing of a Mallorcan armada from the Castellon town of Almenara in 1344, whose defeat on these shores was forever engraved in the name of the place.
