The historical lighthouse of Maspalomas, guiding ships on the route between Europe and America.

The idea to build the lighthouse arose in 1861, in a deserted and remote place at that time. The construction, which lasted 28 years, was designed by Juan León y Castillo and measures 58 meters in height. A dock was built in the sea to unload construction materials.

The lighthouse is located in the Playa del Inglés, and at that time it was the only visible building at the end of a long beach that ended near the Oasis of Maspalomas. Today, it is a Cultural Heritage Site and an emblematic symbol of the island. Many tourists photograph it every year from the promenade.

From the lighthouse, access is granted to the longest beach on the island, which begins with the Natural Reserve of the Maspalomas Dunes. This reserve includes three ecosystems: Palm Grove, Chaca, and the Dunes, which extend to the sea.
