The Anaga Massif Biosphere Reserve: A Unique Natural Treasure

The Anaga Massif Biosphere Reserve is one of the most important natural areas in Europe. Located in Tenerife, this site stands out for its great biological diversity and high ecological value. It is known as the Kilometre Zero of Vascular Flora by the International Committee of the World Biological Corridor, due to its importance for the conservation of plant species.

A large number of endemic species

In Anaga you can find plants that exist only in this area. Some of them are: Anaga's Amagante de Chinamada, Taganana's Thyme, Chinamada's Pelotilla, Chinobre's Lechuguilla and Anaga's Violet. These species are exclusive to the Canary archipelago and are part of Tenerife's unique natural heritage.

International protection since 2024

Since February of this year, the Anaga Massif has been part of the World Biological Corridor , a global project focused on connecting and protecting natural areas. Its inclusion was announced during the 1st International Ocean Congress in El Hierro, where the importance of restoring affected ecosystems was highlighted.

This recognition allows trails, ravines, marine areas and other spaces in Anaga to be integrated into an international conservation network. This further strengthens the protection of one of the Canary Islands' most valuable sites.
