The island of Tenerife, located off the west coast of Africa, is the largest of the Canary Islands and can be visited year-round due to its mild climate. Temperatures remain around 23°C. Along with La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro, it forms the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Dominating the island is the Teide, a treasure of incredible scenic beauty. Around the Teide, a National Park has been created which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The island is also internationally known for the famous Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, celebrated before Lent and characterized by parades, music, dancing, and colorful costumes. It is considered the second most popular and internationally known carnival after that of Rio de Janeiro, with which the city is twinned. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital, a modern, cosmopolitan, and economically developed city. It is close to San Cristobal de La Laguna and one of Tenerife’s most famous beaches, Playa de las Teresitas.

However, the most popular tourist centers are on the south coast. Playa de las Americas was built in the 1960s next to the town of Los Cristianos and is only 15 kilometers from the nearby Reina Sofia Airport in Tenerife South. It has numerous attractions as well as beautiful beaches. Tenerife is a place of singular beauty capable of providing strong emotions. The charm of its volcanic origins is undeniable and influences the colors and landscape, creating a spectacular setting.

It is also worth visiting the Corona Forestal Natural Park, another of the island’s natural wonders, and not to be missed is the Cueva del Viento, Europe’s longest lava tube and the fifth longest in the world after those in Hawaii. Several towns on the island are worth visiting, such as La Orotava, San Cristobal de la Laguna, and Los Gigantes, as well as the capital, Santa Cruz. The Auditorio de Tenerife, designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, is a standout. Tenerife also has a wide range of beaches, including the beautiful Playa Tejita next to the Medano beaches, famous for international windsurfing competitions. Along the west coast, on the other hand, we find Playa de Los Gigantes, a view that offers an impressive spectacle thanks to the high cliffs and the pleasant contrast with the dark, typically volcanic sand.
