MUNICIPALITY OF PUERTO DE LA CRUZ
MUNICIPALITY OF PUERTO DE LA CRUZ
In the heart of the tourist centre of Puerto de la Cruz, in the north of the island of Tenerife, is Playa Jardín, a complex that begins at Castillo San Felipe, a very well preserved fort from the early 17th century which was reconditioned in the 20th century as a cultural space and links to the Punta Brava district.
This complex is made up of three beaches of beautiful natural black sand with a rich marine ecosystem and are called Playa Jardín, Playa Chica and Playa Grande
It is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic places in the area as it was designed in the nineties by the renowned Canarian artist César Manrique and integrates a beautiful landscape with numerous gardens of endemic flora, waterfalls,
fountains, stone caves and beaches of warm black sand. His vision was to create an attractive coastal landscape of palm trees and large expanses of volcanic sand surrounded by colourful botanical gardens resulting in a true work of art made infrastructure
Playa Jardín has a length of 700 metres so you’ll always find a spot to lie back and enjoy. It has been awarded Blue Flag, so it has all the necessary services to spend a unique day.
The beach has toilets, sun lounger hire, sunshades, showers, changing rooms, access for people with reduced mobility, nearby bus stop and tourist information points as well as lifeguard and lifeguard posts.
In the vicinity of the beach you can satisfy any need you may have, as just a few steps away you will find bars, restaurants and beach bars where you can have a snack or taste Canarian and international cuisine, places to go shopping, supermarkets and even an area for the little ones of the family.

The water quality for swimming is excellent, a real treat if you like to enjoy the seabed. You can swim peacefully because they have several breakwaters that protect you from the currents and waves, although if you are someone who likes to swim in distant waters or surfing, it is necessary to take extreme caution because you will not have the shelter that the breakwaters offer you and is usually a beach of currents and waves so it is also perfect for lovers of this sport.
Its proximity to the theme park «Loro Parque«, makes it a high occupancy area all year round, so it’s usually quite busy and can sometimes be tricky to find parking, the good thing, is that you’ll find it easy, as almost everywhere on the island there are directions to Loro Parque, and this beach is just below, so you can’t miss it.
The bonfires of San Juan at Playa Jardín are really special, which is why on this magical night a large number of people gather, especially the younger ones along the three beaches, and around the bonfires and try to put aside the bad times and purify themselves with a night swim.
Access to the beach through the gardens of native flora, along paths between stone walls and waterfalls of water, is an initiatory journey where you can enjoy the sea breeze or sunsets, while you feel the pleasant smell of the sea and with magnificent views of the volcano Teide.
Its promenade connects the beach with the gardens, children’s areas, terraces, cafes and the bandstand where musical performances are held.
