El Teide is a volcano located on the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain). It has an altitude of no less than 3,715 metres above sea level and 7,500 metres above the ocean floor, it is the highest peak in all of Spain.

It is the highest of any land emerged from the Atlantic Ocean and the third largest volcano on Earth from its base on the ocean floor, after Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, both in Hawaii.

The altitude of Mount Teide also makes the island of Tenerife the tenth highest island in the world.

Teide Tenerife is without doubt the most characteristic and representative place in the whole of Tenerife.

The Teide National Park was declared World Heritage of Humanity by Unesco in 2007 with the category of Natural Property.

El Teide is also a European Diploma by the Council of Europe and is part of the Sites Natura 2000 Network.

Awarded all these prizes with good reason, as it is the most complete sample of supra-Mediterranean floor vegetation that exists, as well as being one of the most spectacular manifestations of volcanism worldwide and therefore the most outstanding of all the Canary Islands.

If you visit in winter you can also enjoy the snow that usually covers it, during the coldest time of the year.

The best way to get to the highest point of Teide is by cable car.

Once you reach the arrival point of the cable car, you can walk and enjoy the incredible views and trails that it offers, a MUST of Tenerife and the Canary Islands.

The Cañadas del Teide National Park received its name in 1954 and consists of a huge volcanic crater 48 km in diameter over which Teide rises to 3.715 metres making it the highest peak in all of Spain.

On the other hand, there are guided tours to the top of the volcano, but remember that you need to be in good shape to cope with the ascent, as it can take around 6 hours and the conditions you are physically exposed to are not the same as at the base of it, considering the height at which it is located.

Also, remember to bring warm clothes and appropriate footwear to enjoy the experience 100%. You’ll be able to enjoy the breathtaking views of Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro from this tourist attraction, the most visited on the whole island.

Regardless of where you stay in Tenerife, you should not miss a visit to this amazing volcano, which will leave you with a very good taste in your mouth and will make you want to repeat the experience as soon as you return.
