This system of communication has been used for centuries by the indigenous Canarians to transmit messages over long distances across ravines and mountains. In 2009, UNESCO recognized it as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, highlighting its historical and linguistic value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unlike other languages, silbo gomero does not use conventional words, but rather tones and modulations that imitate vowel and consonant sounds.
