Where does the white-breasted thrush live?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This small bird, scientifically known as Turdus torquatus <\/em>, normally inhabits areas in Northern Europe, but migrates to Tenerife every winter. There, it finds food in the form of seeds from the Canary cedar, a threatened species that needs help for its dispersion and regeneration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jos\u00e9 Luis Mart\u00edn Esquivel, a biologist at Teide National Park, has noted that studies conducted on this species reveal that the white-breasted thrush significantly contributes to the dispersion of cedar seeds. Thanks to its feeding habits, these seeds can germinate in new areas, promoting the repopulation of the Canary cedar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, it has been observed that some individuals return year after year, indicating a stable migration pattern. To facilitate their stay in an arid environment, water troughs have been installed in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike the common thrush that inhabits urban environments, the white-breasted thrush prefers high mountain areas. Its white collar is its most distinctive feature. It remains in Teide from November to March, during which time it primarily feeds on the fruit of the Canary cedar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to data obtained in recent years, white-breasted thrushes tend to move in areas close to water sources and cedar populations, while other birds, such as crows, cover greater distances. This makes the thrush especially effective in the local dispersion of seeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
