Its territory extends from the summit of <strong>Malpaso<\/strong> (the highest point of El Hierro, at 1,501 meters) to the coast of <strong>Valle de El Golfo<\/strong>, a natural amphitheater of volcanic origin where crops, natural pools, and most of the municipality's life are concentrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, <strong>The Border<\/strong> it is part of the <strong>Biosphere Reserve<\/strong> of El Hierro, which explains the richness of its landscapes: forests of <strong>laurisilva<\/strong>, twisted juniper trees by the wind, cliffs, and a volcanic coast with crystal-clear water pools. They are formed by volcanic rock and fill with Atlantic water, creating pools of crystal-clear water protected from the waves. The complex includes accessible entrances, a solarium, and a resting area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other hand, the <strong>Blue Pool<\/strong>, a few kilometers away, is another more sheltered natural pool with intensely blue waters. It is one of the most photographed corners of <strong>El Hierro<\/strong>. Both are free and perfect for a peaceful swim at any time of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-el-sabinar-y-los-paisajes-unicos-de-la-frontera\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Juniper and the unique landscapes of La Frontera<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Juniper<\/strong> is one of the most emblematic places of <strong>Canary Islands<\/strong>. It is a forest of <strong>juniipers<\/strong> twisted by the trade winds, with shapes that resemble natural sculptures. From here you can see the <strong>Valle de El Golfo<\/strong>: the tropical pineapple crops, the white villages, the coast and the Atlantic. The building includes a restaurant with views where you can try Herre\u00f1o cuisine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, it's a must-stop for any visitor to <strong>El Hierro<\/strong> and one of the last projects by Manrique outside Lanzarote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-senderismo-en-la-frontera\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hiking in La Frontera<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The municipality is ideal for <strong>hiking<\/strong>. The <strong>Camino de la Virgen<\/strong>, the longest processional route of <strong>Canary Islands<\/strong>, crosses the island from the <strong>Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Kings<\/strong> to Valverde. The sections that pass through La Frontera go through forest of <strong>laurisilva<\/strong>, pine forests and volcanic landscapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, the <strong>Route of the Lookouts<\/strong> traverses the edge of the Valley of El Golfo with stunning views. Next to it is the <strong>Lagartario<\/strong>, a recovery center for the <strong>giant lizard of El Hierro<\/strong> (<em>Gallotia simonyi<\/em>), an endangered endemic species that only lives on this island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Kings<\/strong>, in the high area of the municipality, guards the image of the patron Virgin of El Hierro. It is a simple place filled with meaning for the Herre\u00f1os.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-gastronomia-en-la-frontera\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gastronomy in La Frontera<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The local cuisine reflects the rural and maritime character of the municipality. <strong>Herre\u00f1o cheese<\/strong> (a mix of goat, sheep, and cow milk), <strong>wrinkled potatoes<\/strong> with <strong>mojo<\/strong>, <strong>gofio<\/strong>, Herre\u00f1o stew and <strong>fresh fish<\/strong> from the coast are the most representative dishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It's also worth trying the <strong>Herre\u00f1o wine<\/strong>, made with native varieties in high vineyards. It is held every four years and is a massive procession that travels across the entire island for a month. However, every year there are smaller celebrations in honor of the Virgin that fill the municipality with tradition and festive atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-como-llegar-a-la-frontera\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to get to La Frontera<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From <strong>Valverde<\/strong> (the capital of El Hierro) you reach <strong>Tigaday<\/strong> in about 30 minutes via the HI-1.
