Webcam San Cristobal de La Laguna, San Roque

A city with a lot of charm

Its colonial architecture, the linear layout of its streets, which was made in the fifteenth century without exterior walls of protection, and a large pedestrian shopping area give a distinctive mark to this old university city.

In its streets and squares stands out a notable number of churches and historical buildings of religious origin, reason why La Laguna offers many possibilities of realizing historical-artistic visits combined with a route by its typical tapas bars.

The name guanche of the area on which La Laguna sits was Aguere, a term that is still used today to refer to the municipality.

It is also known as the Ciudad de los Adelantados, as it was the home of Adelantado Alonso Fernández de Lugo and his descendants.

After the conquest of Tenerife, La Laguna was the first capital of the island, making it the center of political, economic and cultural power of the archipelago.

On the outskirts, in the area known as Los Rodeos, is also the first airport of Tenerife known today as Tenerife Norte.

On the coast of San Cristóbal de La Laguna there are the puddles and natural pools of Punta del Hidalgo, next to which there is a modern lighthouse.
