Dieses Ereignis markierte den Beginn einer ernsthaften Krise, die Hunger, Pl\u00fcnderungen und die Ausbreitung der Beulenpest umfasste. Nach der Belagerung war die Stadt ohne wirtschaftliche Mittel, um \u00c4rzte einzustellen oder Lebensmittel zu beschaffen, was die gesundheitliche Situation versch\u00e4rfte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die Epidemie breitete sich schnell auf andere Regionen von Gran Canaria aus, wie Telde, Gu\u00eda und G\u00e1ldar. In der Hauptstadt starben mindestens 25% der Bev\u00f6lkerung. Um die Ansteckung einzud\u00e4mmen, musste die lokale Regierung vor\u00fcbergehend umziehen, obwohl die Krankheit letztendlich auch Gu\u00eda erreichte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die Pest auf den Kanaren kam wahrscheinlich von Sevilla oder Madeira. Es waren die Handelsschiffe, einige aus Holland, die die Krankheit brachten. Der Mangel an Ressourcen verhinderte wirksame Ma\u00dfnahmen wie die Anstellung externen medizinischen Personals. Sogar Sch\u00fcsse wurden auf verd\u00e4chtige Schiffe abgegeben, die versuchten, von infizierten Gebieten nach Teneriffa zu gelangen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dieser Kontext von Krieg und Krankheit f\u00fchrte zu gro\u00dfen menschlichen und wirtschaftlichen Verlusten. Vor dem Angriff gab es bereits eine Hungersnot, die die Einnahme von Krediten bei der Kirche erforderlich machte.
